Abstract has released InstaMAT 2026, an update to its platform for texturing and 3D asset management. This version introduces tools such as editable curve brushes, a rebuilt radial and planar symmetry system, and intelligent masking. The focus remains on unifying the material creation, texturing, and geometry processing process into a single workflow.
Bézier Curves on Mesh and Precision Symmetry 🎯
The new curve brushes allow drawing strokes as editable Bézier paths directly on the mesh, with independent control of radius, falloff, and rotation at each anchor point. This facilitates the creation of panel lines or decorative details that remain in place even if the underlying topology changes. Planar symmetry now allows displacing the mirror plane on any axis, while radial symmetry automates the repetition of strokes around a central point, useful for screw patterns or ornamental motifs.
Goodbye to the Duct Tape Pipeline (and the Excuses) 😅
With these features, the classic justification of the UV moved to explain why a detail painted with so much effort now floats two centimeters from the model is exposed. InstaMAT 2026 seems determined to eliminate those small daily dramas in the studio, leaving artists with no recourse but to admit that, sometimes, the problem was between the chair and the tablet. A more precise interface can be a double-edged sword for creativity... and for pride.
