The company ICON has opened commercial access to its Titan system, an integrated 3D printing package for construction. This launch allows external builders to acquire the technology, which combines hardware, software, materials, and support. It is aimed at residential, commercial, and governmental projects, with the goal of reducing building costs.
An integrated package for printing large-scale structures 🏗️
The Titan system operates as a turnkey solution. The package includes the robotic printer, workflow software, construction materials developed by ICON (such as Lavacrete cement), and training and support services. The company states that it can manufacture walls at a cost close to $20 per square foot, which translates to a reduction of up to 40% in some construction costs.
The end of lost bricks and extra shovelfuls? 🤖
With Titan, the classic cry of bring more mix! could become obsolete. The robot handles everything, following the digital plan to the letter, without pauses for coffee or complaints about the heat. You'll just have to watch that it doesn't innovate and decide to add an extra window where there isn't one. At least, it won't argue about where to put the partitions.
