3D artist Aleksandra Wojcik shared on ArtStation part of her conceptual work for the series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Her task was to develop the visual appearance of Flea Bottom, the slum district of King's Landing, starting from a blockout provided by Out Studio. These images offer a view of the initial process to define environments.
From blockout to narrative environment: the conceptual workflow 🎨
The starting point was a basic geometric blockout that defined volumes and spaces. On top of this structure, Wojcik generated the visual concepts that establish the style, atmosphere, and details of Flea Bottom. This step is key to guide the modeling and texturing teams, transforming a technical guide into a believable scenario that matches the tone of the series.
Flea Bottom: as cozy as ever (for the rats) 🐭
The concepts confirm that Flea Bottom retains its characteristic charm: narrow streets, crowded buildings, and a general feeling that bathing is a luxury. It's a place where a dragon egg would probably go unnoticed among the trash, but a knight in shining armor would draw too much attention. A reminder that in Westeros, social ascent often begins in the dirtiest neighborhood.
