Jeff Kaplan, former Overwatch director, returns to development with a new project. His studio, Kintsugiyama, presents The Legend of California, an action and survival shooter in an open world. The game is set in a mythical version of the island of California during the Gold Rush era, and includes exploration, crafting, and optional PvE and PvP combat.
A persistent world and robust crafting systems 🛠️
The title is based on persistent multiplayer servers where players can form companies of up to four people. Collection and crafting systems allow creating everything from weapons and tools to advanced workstations. The FPS combat is designed to reward precision, both against wildlife and in confrontations against other players in the optional PvP mode.
Searching for gold (and bullets) instead of loot boxes 💰
Kaplan swaps futuristic heroes for heavily armed gold prospectors. Instead of arguing about metas in Hanamura, players will be able to fight over a gold vein. It's an unexpected twist: from I need healing! to I need more lead for this shotgun!. At least the team atmosphere will remain, even if it's to protect your ranch from outlaws.
