AeroVironment has taken precision warfare to another level with the Switchblade 600, a loitering missile system capable of destroying heavy armor. The most striking feature is that the operator can abort the attack at the last second and readjust the mission, something unthinkable with a conventional kamikaze drone.
Loitering technology with the ability to abort and reorient the attack 🎯
The Switchblade 600 integrates an electro-optical camera and a data link that allows the operator to maintain total control up to the point of impact. Its anti-tank warhead can penetrate the armor of main battle tanks. The system weighs about 23 kilograms, is launched from a tube, and has a range of up to 40 kilometers. If the target changes position or a civilian appears, the operator can cancel the attack and redirect the drone to another target, reducing collateral damage.
When your suicide drone asks for a second chance 😅
Imagine launching a missile and, halfway there, deciding it's better not to. With the Switchblade 600, you can say: stop, stop, I got the wrong house. And the drone, obediently, turns around. It's like having a kamikaze with a handbrake. Of course, if you abort it too many times, the enemy will have time for coffee while you decide whether you really want to blow up their turret or leave it for another day.
