Josep Rull, president of the Parliament, has urged Mediterranean countries to cooperate in order to face the climate crisis, migrant deaths, and hate speech from the far right. He highlighted the income differences between the north and south, which push young people to emigrate. Citizens are watching as joint solutions are sought for problems such as droughts and dehumanization. Cooperation is presented as the key to improving life in the region.
Sensors and shared data against drought 🌍
Technology can be an ally in this Mediterranean cooperation. Networks of humidity sensors and climate prediction systems, managed by supranational bodies, would allow real-time data sharing on water resources. This would facilitate early drought warnings and crop optimization. Open digital platforms would also help track dangerous migration routes, providing information to rescue services. Without coordinated governance, this data remains in ineffective national silos.
The north says the south doesn't know how to recycle hate 😤
Now it turns out that the far right is a Mediterranean problem, as if hate speech needed sunscreen to cross the pond. While Rull calls for cooperation, some northern leaders prefer to build digital walls and blame the south for not recycling their prejudices properly. Perhaps the next step will be to install solar panels on the speeches so that, at least, they generate something useful. Cooperation is nice, but as long as they don't touch the north's taps.
