The Colombinas Festivals of Huelva will return in 2026 with a special theme: the centenary of the first transatlantic flight of the Plus Ultra seaplane. The dedication falls on Palos de la Frontera, and the entrance arch to the venue will recreate the historic arch that honored the aviators. An opportunity for citizens to connect with their past and celebrate local identity in a festive environment.
The entrance arch: engineering to remember the aerial feat ✈️
The structure of the entrance arch will replicate the original commemorative arch, a work that combined ephemeral architecture with elements of 1920s aviation. Designers have integrated metal profiles and tensioned fabrics to evoke the wings of the Plus Ultra. Wind resistance and nighttime visibility have been prioritized through LED lighting that simulates the flight routes. A technical setup that aims to be educational without losing its festive character.
The Plus Ultra returns to Huelva, but this time without getting wet 😄
After 100 years, the Plus Ultra returns to the Huelva spotlight, although this time without needing to land on the river. Residents will be able to contemplate the replica of the arch without fear of it being blown away by the wind, a risk that the organizers have calculated to the millimeter. Of course, if any visitor expects to see a real seaplane parked at the social club's stall, they should know that the closest thing will be an inflatable seagull. History flies, but tapas remain on solid ground.
