BYD has launched its new Great Tang electric SUV in China, with a starting price of $35,500. It offers a range of up to 950 kilometers and ultra-fast charging that goes from 10 to 70 percent in just five minutes. The brand has already accumulated 150,000 pre-orders, a record figure that reflects interest in a vehicle that combines long-distance travel capability with a more accessible cost.
Blade Battery Technology: More Range and Record-Breaking Charging Time ⚡
The Great Tang uses BYD's Blade battery, an LFP cell that supports a 10C charging rate. This allows recovering 400 kilometers of range in five minutes, surpassing most competitors in the segment. The SUV measures 5.1 meters in length and features all-wheel drive and air suspension. Its energy efficiency is around 16 kWh per 100 kilometers, a figure that positions it as a rational option for those looking to reduce operating costs without sacrificing performance.
And Meanwhile, at the Gas Station, People Are Still Paying for Coffee ☕
While BYD Great Tang drivers charge their battery in the time it takes to have an espresso, the rest of the world is still waiting in line at the gas station to pay 80 euros to fill the tank. With 150,000 orders, it seems many people's patience has run out before their range. That said, we'll have to see if the ultra-fast chargers are as available as the brochures promise, or if the wait just moves to the charging post.
