The 23rd edition of Art al Vent kicks off this Friday in Gata de Gorgos with 83 fabric artworks from artists in 17 countries hanging from balconies. The exhibition expands to new streets such as Plaça de l’Església, due to construction work on Calle La Bassa. From July 3 to 24, the historic center offers a free walk that boosts local commerce and brings culture outdoors.
The logistics of hanging art on balconies: a manageable technical challenge 🎨
Installing 83 fabric artworks on balconies requires coordinated assembly between the city council and homeowners. Each piece, in a standardized format, is secured with anchoring systems that ensure stability against wind and rain. This year, the change of streets has forced a recalculation of distances between supports and verification of the strength of new attachment points. A process that, despite the construction work, has been completed without delays.
Art dodging construction: forced relocation in Gata 🏗️
Calle La Bassa, under construction, has forced Art al Vent to move to Plaça de l’Església. The organizers, with a poker face, have had to relocate 83 artworks while locals wonder if the next step will be hanging paintings on cranes. Of course, the walk remains free: the only risk is that you might run into scaffolding while admiring the art.
