The ANPE union has requested the Government to implement a state plan to adapt educational centers to high temperatures. The proposal includes installing air conditioning and improving thermal insulation in classrooms. The lack of these measures puts the health of students and teachers at risk, who suffer from heatstroke and see their performance reduced during the hottest months. The situation demands an immediate response.
Passive technology and home automation as a climate solution 🌡️
Beyond air conditioning, there are technical solutions such as installing smart awnings, automated cross-ventilation, and reflective paint on roofs. Temperature and humidity monitoring systems can automatically activate fans or open windows. These technologies, combined with good insulation in walls and ceilings, reduce the need for active climate control and energy consumption. Implementing them on a large scale requires investment, but the cost of not doing so is greater in terms of health and absenteeism.
The school oven: where knowledge is baked 🔥
If the educational community continues to roast in the classrooms, they will soon ask for digital blackboards to be able to project shadow puppets. Students no longer ask to go to the bathroom, but for a turn to sit next to the only working fan. And teachers, with their tongues hanging out, have started teaching from the hallway, where at least there is a bit of a breeze. At the rate we are going, the next mandatory school supply will be a fan and a bottle of frozen water.
