The T-15 Armata, a Russian heavy infantry fighting vehicle
This heavy infantry fighting vehicle derives from the same modular platform as the T-14 Armata tank. However, its internal design changes radically to fulfill a different mission: transporting and protecting a full platoon of soldiers on the modern battlefield. 🛡️
Unique configuration for protection
The main modification is placing the engine in the front. This change frees up all the rear space to create a spacious compartment where the infantry travels. This arrangement acts as an additional barrier, as the engine block protects both the hull crew and the transported troops from frontal threats. Additionally, the main combat turret is unmanned, which eliminates the risk of casualties in that area and increases the safety of the team operating from inside the armored hull.
Dimensions and capacity:- Length: Approximately 9.5 meters.
- Width: Around 3.5 meters.
- Height: About 3 meters.
Its large volume and heavy armor aim to optimize survival against direct threats and improvised explosive devices.
Powerful Epoch weapon system
The main armament is managed by the unmanned Epoch turret. This system integrates a 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannon and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun to engage infantry and light vehicles. To counter heavier armored targets, the turret mounts four Kornet-EM guided anti-tank missiles. An operator controls all this armament remotely from the safety of the hull, allowing effective combat without exposure. 💥
Epoch turret armament:- 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannon.
- Coaxial PKTM 7.62 mm machine gun.
- Four launchers for Kornet-EM missiles.
The experience for the transported infantry
Although the troop compartment is spacious, the journey for the soldiers is not comfortable on long trips. The passengers must carry all their personal equipment in a confined space and, during combat, they directly perceive the sound of the 30 mm cannon firing right above their heads. This factor is a reminder that, despite the advanced protection, the design prioritizes combat function over comfort. 🎯
