The Smurfs universe is renewed with the arrival of a new movie titled The Smurfs – The Movie. Unlike its previous installments, this film is presented as a reboot, with a studio change that marks a new creative direction for the beloved blue characters.
A fresh and modern visual style
The movie is directed by Chris Miller, who is known for his work on films like Puss in Boots and Shrek 3. The animation has been done by Cinesite studio, which has introduced a modern visual style that combines outline lines and 3D effects. However, the design is not as avant-garde as in other recent projects like Spider-Verse.
The plot: a classic rescue mission
As is typical in Smurf stories, the movie features a plot full of action and adventure. Papa Smurf has been kidnapped by the villains Razmel and Gargamel, and it is Smurfette along with her friend Clumsy Smurf who embark on a mission to rescue him. Throughout their adventure, they will encounter new characters and unexpected challenges.
An impressive voice cast
To bring these characters to life, the movie features a stellar voice cast. Among the actors are Jérôme Commandeur (Clumsy Smurf), François Damiens (Razmel), Sofia Essaïdi (Smurfette, who will be voiced by Rihanna in the original version), Philippe Katerine (Gutsy Smurf), Gérard Hernandez (Papa Smurf), and the special participation of Patricia Kaas (Mama Poot).
Release date and expectations
The movie is scheduled to premiere on July 16 in France and July 18 in the United States. With a modern focus on animation and a story that maintains the essence of previous installments, The Smurfs – The Movie promises to be one of the most anticipated films of the summer.
“The return of the Smurfs promises a visually appealing spectacle for the little ones, while maintaining the charm that has made them so beloved.”
