This road section, designed to replace an old and dangerous route, never fulfilled its destiny. The initiative arose to solve a historical problem: the difficult access to the Gistaín valley. The existing road had tight curves and a deteriorated surface, making traffic slow and risky, especially with snow. The new variant was planned with a straighter route and a moderate slope, seeking smoother and safer vehicle circulation. It represented a considerable public investment for an area of low population density.

The causes mix changes in territorial planning and probably budget limitations.
