CSIC Opens Call for Inspiraciencia 2024, Now with Dance
The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) activates the registration period for the fourteenth edition of Inspiraciencia. This contest, held every two years, has as its main objective to create connections between the world of science and that of literature. On this occasion, it introduces a significant novelty by accepting dance as an additional artistic language to dialogue with scientific concepts. Participants can submit short fiction works inspired by science. 🎭
Categories, Languages, and Prizes of the Contest
The contest structures participation based on the language in which the story is written: Spanish, Catalan, Galician, and Basque. Each of these groups is divided into two sections: one for adults and another for young people aged between twelve and seventeen years. A jury of specialists in science and literature will analyze the originality, literary value, and how the scientific component is integrated into the story. The winning authors in each category will receive a cash prize.
Details of the categories:- Four official languages: Spanish, Catalan, Galician, and Basque.
- Two age groups: adults and youth (12-17 years).
- Evaluation criteria: creativity, literary quality, and fusion with science.
"It seems that now, in addition to writing about string theory, you can also dance it."
Dance Enters the Scene as a New Form of Expression
The most relevant change in this fourteenth edition is the inclusion of dance. Contestants have the option to submit a short choreographic piece in video format, where they must explore a scientific concept through body movement. This expansion shows the organizers' intention to explore all possible ways to combine art and science, in order to find new methods to communicate complex ideas and awaken public interest.
Features of the new dance category:- Accepted formats: video with a short choreographic piece.
- Objective: explore a scientific concept through movement.
- Purpose: expand languages to fuse art and knowledge.
A Constantly Expanding Bridge
Inspiraciencia consolidates its role as a dynamic bridge between two fields of knowledge. By adding dance to literature, it recognizes that creativity has no limits when it comes to interpreting science. This innovative approach invites choreographers, writers, and curious minds to rethink how research is communicated and perceived. Perhaps the next breakthrough to understand quantum mechanics will not only come from a laboratory, but also from a dance studio. 💡
