The Alma Awards 2026 Open Voting to Over a Thousand Screenwriters
The ninth edition of the Alma Awards, organized by the ALMA Screenwriters Association, begins this Thursday its voting period. More than a thousand associated professionals can now select their favorites among the 468 works aspiring to win an award. This democratic system serves to designate the finalists in the different categories. 🗳️
A Two-Phase Process to Choose the Best
The rules state that all Spanish-authored creations premiered between the first and last day of 2025 can compete for the award. The list of admitted works, available on the association's website, shows what was produced in the audiovisual and theatrical fields during that year. Screenwriters vote first to choose five finalists per category. In a second round, they must decide on a single winner for each of the awards.
Key Details of the Electoral Process:- Voters: More than 1000 screenwriters associated with ALMA.
- Candidate Works: 468 Spanish productions premiered in 2025.
- Phase 1: Select 5 finalists per category.
- Phase 2: Choose 1 definitive winner per category.
The biggest dilemma for some will be choosing between the series that hooked an entire country or that theater script seen by only seven people, but which changed their lives.
Categories in Competition and Event Calendar
The works compete in a wide range of categories, including feature film, television series, short film, and theater play, among others. The names of the finalists from the first vote will be announced on February 10. Subsequently, the period for the second round of voting will open, which will determine the absolute winners.

The March Gala Closes the Cycle
