The Abandoned Movie City of Coín
In southern Spain lies a cinematographic project that dreamed of transforming the national film industry. The Coín Movie City, located in the province of Málaga, represented a visionary bet to create a top-level audiovisual production complex with technologically advanced facilities and permanent sets 🎬.
The Ambitious Andalusian Project
This cinematographic complex featured meticulous recreations of urban environments from various historical periods, from medieval neighborhoods to contemporary avenues. The materials used included cardboard stone and plaster, allowing great versatility for productions of different genres without the need for costly trips to multiple locations.
Outstanding Facilities:- Architectural recreations from different historical periods with lightweight materials
- Administrative offices and specialized technical areas
- Costume workshops and spaces for complete production teams
"What began as a cinematic dream turned into a lesson on the challenges of the audiovisual industry"
The Decline of a Cinematic Dream
Despite hosting successful national productions during its early years, the project faced financial difficulties and management problems that precipitated its progressive closure. Over time, the empty stages and fake streets began to show irreversible deterioration.
Signs of Abandonment:- Imitation stone structures with cracks and structural damage
- Faded and weathered advertising billboards
- Invasion of wild vegetation in spaces previously occupied by productions
The Current Ghostly Set
Today this abandoned complex presents a surreal atmosphere where nature has reclaimed its territory. The only actors roaming these cinematographic sets are lizards and birds, staging their own performances without the need for artistic direction 🦎. What was once a symbol of innovation in the Andalusian audiovisual industry now remains as a silent testament to thwarted ambitions and lost opportunities.
