
Creating Pyrotechnic Effects in Houdini for a Sports Celebration
The visualization of sports celebrations requires a technical and artistic approach that combines realism with emotional impact. In this project, we explore how to recreate a victory scene with spectacular fireworks using Houdini's advanced tools 🎆
Initial Project Setup
The first step involves establishing the base parameters of the virtual scene. We select metric units to ensure dimensional coherence across all elements. The main camera is configured with 35mm lenses to achieve that cinematic look so characteristic of professional sports broadcasts.

Development of 3D Elements and Characters
Procedural modeling allows us to create natural variations in the stands through spectator instances. We implement basic rigs to pose fans in a celebratory attitude, wearing the winning team's colors. The players on the court are modeled with victorious poses that direct their gaze towards the aerial spectacle 🏀

Lighting and Material Systems
The nighttime lighting is built using environmental HDRI complemented by strategic point lights. We develop PBR materials for surfaces like the wooden court and clothing textiles. Emissive shaders on scoreboard screens display the game result, integrating contextual information into the scene ✨
Pyrotechnic Effects Simulation
The heart of the project lies in the advanced particle systems. We use POP nodes for launching rockets from multiple stadium locations. Wind and turbulence forces add organic naturalness to the trajectories. The DOP system manages the main explosions with the emission of secondary particles simulating sparks and luminous trails 💥

Final Rendering and Optimization
We configure the render using Karma XPU with adaptive sampling to capture all the details of the night scene.
