Director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina have reunited at Pixar to work on Coco 2, the sequel to the successful 2017 animated film Coco. The announcement was made by Disney CEO Robert Iger during the company's annual shareholders' meeting. The film is scheduled for release in 2029.
First Details of the Project
Although the project is in its early stages, Iger highlighted that the film will be full of humor, emotions, and adventures. Producer Mark Nielsen, an Oscar winner for his work on Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, will be in charge of production.
The Legacy of the First Film
Coco, a collaboration between Disney and Pixar, tells the story of Miguel, a 12-year-old boy who dreams of being a musician, despite his family's ban on music. During his journey to the vibrant Land of the Dead, Miguel discovers the secrets of his family heritage. The film won two Oscars, one for best animated feature and another for the original song Remember Me. It also received a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and several critics' awards.
Expectations for the Sequel
Although specific details about the plot of Coco 2 have not been revealed, the sequel is expected to maintain the emotional and visual essence that made the first film a global success. Fans will have to wait until 2029 to discover Miguel and his family's new adventures.
