The plot revolves around Rue, a young woman in the midst of a quarter-life crisis, and her friend Quinn, who drags her into joining his band, Sesamoid. Along with Piper, Warren, and Griff, the group embarks on an adventure full of obstacles to achieve fame. However, their hometown, Veilport, hides supernatural secrets that will turn them into unwilling participants in a battle between science and the paranormal.

Capdevielle and Nichols met during the production of Hazbin Hotel and discovered they shared creative interests. Nichols had ideas for the characters since elementary school, and together they developed a test animated short that became the basis for Far-Fetched.
