The Immersion and Real-Time Department of the CST has announced a conference day to be held on February 20th at the Forum des Images in Paris. This event can be attended both in person and online.
A Multidisciplinary Approach to Cinema and VR
Throughout the day, four sessions will be presented, focusing on different aspects of film production and virtual reality. These will include a case study on a specific project, a demonstration on previsualization, a focus on the USD format which is gaining ground in the industry, and finally, a talk on VR standardization.
Masterclass by François Vautier on War and Fraternity
The day will begin at 10:00 AM with a masterclass by director François Vautier, creator of Champ de Bataille, a 22-minute film that uses 360° footage to narrate the absurd reality of war and explore themes such as fraternity and humanity. The film has been selected for the Venice Film Festival 2024 and Fipadoc.
Previsualization and VR: Optimizing Film Production
At 11:15 AM, a session will be presented on VR previsualization as an essential tool in film production. By using real-time 3D rendering engines, a very agile level of creation is achieved, which is useful in pre-production, during, and after filming, facilitating decision-making.
- Tristan Laville and Florian Sauvage, cinematography and previsualization supervisors at Les Androids Associés, will give live demonstrations of these innovative techniques.
USD: A 3D Standard to Optimize Production
The 1:30 PM session will be led by Jean-Colas Prunier, a pioneer in virtual production with over 20 years of experience in major international studios. Prunier will talk about the USD format, a 3D standard that is gaining popularity in the film and animation industry, and its application in improving production processes.
VR in the Process of Standardization
At 2:45 PM, the standardization of VR will be addressed in a session titled "A Beginning of a Standard for VR". Marc Lopato from the company Diversion, and Jonathan Tamène from Backlight, will discuss progress in creating a standard for "mid-scale" VR. This initiative, involving creators, distributors, and other entities, aims to improve the virtual reality experience at events and cultural spaces.

There are two ways to access these conferences. Interested parties can register to attend in person at the Forum des Images, located in the Forum des Halles in Paris, or they can follow the live presentations via the CST's YouTube channel.
