A Cat Pandemic That Turns Humans
Crunchyroll is premiering a series that seems straight out of a crossover between a zombie apocalypse and a feline meme festival. Nyaight of the Living Cat adapts the manga by Hawkman and Mecha-Roots and presents a world where a virus turns any human who touches a cat... into another cat. That's it, simple as that, absurd as that, and of course, genius for those who enjoy the most surreal humor.
Takashi Miike Behind the Chaos
The madness doesn't stop at the crazy premise. Executive direction is handled by Takashi Miike, the Japanese director known for films like Ichi the Killer or Audition. Yes, that Miike who isn't afraid to mix violence, humor, and completely over-the-top situations. The animation is handled by the studio OLM, known for their work on series like Pokémon or The Apothecary Diaries. Tomohiro Kamitani, who has worked on One Punch Man and Hunter x Hunter, is in charge of the general direction.
A Worldwide Preview Among Festivals and Expos
Before arriving on Crunchyroll, the series will make stops at several key events on the otaku and cinephile calendar. The first episode will be screened at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 3. Additionally, episodes three and four will be part of the official selection at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, where they will have their world premiere before arriving on the streaming platform.
Absurd Humor and Feline Danger
The subtitled trailer already makes the tone clear: adorable cats that are humanity's greatest threat. The biggest challenge for the protagonists isn't fighting, but resisting the urge to pet these contagious kitties. The animation mixes classic style with moments of visual humor very much in Miike's style.
We're dealing with an anime that's like someone mixed a particle physics simulator with a real-time cat filter... and then added a touch of post-apocalyptic horror. In other words, perfect to watch while rendering your latest scene in Blender 🐱.
