Epic Games has released Quixel Mixer 2023.1, the latest version of its PBR material creation tool. This release marks the end of the software's development, which now operates completely offline at the cost of losing access to online libraries. It will no longer receive updates or support, but is offered as a permanent free download with over 800 assets included.
A Layer-Based Workflow Without Online Dependencies 🛠️
The tool, launched in 2018, was based on a non-destructive layer system for blending materials from high-precision 3D scans. The 2023.1 version removes all functionality that depended on servers, turning it into a fully standalone offline suite. Users can work with the local texture and map library, but will no longer be able to access or download new assets from Quixel's cloud services.
