The animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ´85 offers a confrontation that the fifth season didn't achieve. Set between seasons 2 and 3, Mike and Will's group faces The Queen and her plant army. Animation allows for a rhythm control that the live-action series cannot sustain. While in the final battle of season 5 some characters remained static, here every frame is designed for the combat to flow. Camera movements are more agile, Eleven's power effects are integrated without cuts, and the use of Dustin as bait is choreographed with video game precision. The Queen, an enemy with clear attack patterns, forces the group to coordinate in real time. There is no room for filler or for heroes waiting their turn.

Lucas and Max discover that the most effective strategy is to throw Dustin onto the battlefield and wait for the enemies to chase him. It turns out that the compass kid has a natural talent for distracting monsters while the others attack from behind. We don't know if this is a compliment or a condemnation for his character, but at least now he has a clear role: being Hawkins' official decoy. Will, meanwhile, feels fulfilled with his mallet.
