Publisher SUNSOFT and developer Wit One have confirmed the return of a classic 80s saga. ROUTE-16R, the new installment in the arcade driving series, will arrive on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on August 6. The title promises to maintain the essence of the originals with an updated touch for modern players.
Retro engine with a modern chassis 🏎️
ROUTE-16R combines the arcade gameplay of the original series with updated mechanics. Development has focused on preserving the simple, direct driving physics of the eighties, but with high-definition graphics and a soundtrack that blends chiptunes with modern synthesizers. The game will offer time trial modes and score challenges, as well as a free mode to explore the routes. Controls have been adapted to current controllers, maintaining the fast response that characterized the saga.
The steering wheel that didn't turn, and now does 🎮
Those who played the original ROUTE-16 will remember that the car only moved left or right, without gradual acceleration. Now, at last, you can step on the accelerator like a normal person. That said, don't expect a driving simulator: if you crash, you explode and start over. Just like the old days, but without having to blow on the cartridge.
