The desire for an updated version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is growing among fans. Considered a pillar of the medium, the 1998 title remains a reference point. However, the ways to play it today (Nintendo 64, 3DS, or Switch via subscription) do not offer a comfortable or visually appealing experience. Followers are calling for treatment similar to that of other re-released classics.
Graphics engine and controls: what would change in a remake 🎮
A modern remake would involve rebuilding Hyrule with an engine like that of Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The fixed camera and N64 controls would be left behind, giving way to a fluid combat system and freer mobility. A re-recorded orchestral soundtrack and the inclusion of quality-of-life improvements, such as a more accessible inventory and reduced loading times, are also expected. The result would be a faithful yet renewed game.
And in the meantime, at the Big N… 🏰
Sure, Nintendo has other priorities. They release a new Mario Party, re-release the same old Zelda on the eShop, and sell us online at a premium price. But hey, let them carry on. After all, we fans are already used to waiting twenty years for them to give us what we ask for. In the meantime, we'll keep summoning Navi to whisper in their ear: Hey! Listen!
