Nvidia has confirmed a variant of the RTX 5070 for laptops that doubles the memory jump compared to the standard version. Instead of the usual 8 GB, this new configuration will feature 12 GB of VRAM to handle demanding titles at QHD resolution. The first shipments of this enhanced version will arrive alongside the 8 GB models during the summer, according to internal sources.
24 Gb G7 memory in four 3 GB chips 🚀
The new RTX 5070 uses 24 Gb G7 memory distributed across four 3 GB modules, reaching a total of 12 GB. This configuration aims to solve the bottleneck that laptops with 8 GB suffer when running games like Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing on Ultra, where performance sits between 45 and 50 fps. The capacity increase allows for maintaining more stable frame rates without reducing textures or shadows, a critical factor for laptops competing with mid-range desktop setups.
8 GB wasn't even enough for Cyberpunk's menu 😅
It seems Nvidia has heard the prayers of those trying to play Cyberpunk 2077 on a laptop and finding that the VRAM ran out before reaching the first firefight. With 12 GB, players will be able to crank up textures without the laptop sounding like a hairdryer in turbo mode. Of course, by the time summer arrives, we'll probably need another 4 GB extra just to open the game's inventory.
