A new Guinness World Record has been set in London, where a team of chefs and volunteers prepared a tiramisu over 440 meters long. This gigantic creation surpassed the previous record, becoming the longest dessert in the world. The event aimed to celebrate Italian gastronomy and highlight tiramisu as a global culinary icon, attracting the attention of media and onlookers.
The logistics behind a 440-meter dessert 🍰
Coordinating a 440-meter production line is no simple task. The organizers deployed a modular conveyor belt on a flat surface, dividing the process into stations. Each station was responsible for a specific layer: coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cream, and cocoa powder. Industrial dispensers were used to ensure uniform thickness and avoid weak spots. The biggest challenge was maintaining the cold chain to prevent the cream from curdling, using cooling tarps and a team of 200 people in assembly shifts.
When your dinner fits into 440 meters of dessert ☕
All very nice, until you think about the coffee bill. Soaking the ladyfingers required over 2,000 liters of espresso, enough to keep an entire London neighborhood awake for a week. And mind you, if the record is broken in Italy, the debate over who makes the best tiramisu would reach Champions League final levels of tension. At least this time, there was no fighting over the last piece: a good 400 meters were left over for the stragglers.
