The annual gala of the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP) served to recognize LaLiga and its president, Javier Tebas, for their financial support of national sports. Tebas took the opportunity to remind that professional football injects 45 million euros per season into other disciplines, a figure he presented as proof of its commitment to the sports ecosystem. For his part, José Hidalgo, president of ADESP, wanted to focus on the invisible ones of sports, those athletes and workers who sustain the foundation without appearing in the headlines.
The distribution model that sustains the sports ecosystem ⚽
The financial structure that enables this annual transfer is based on LaLiga's audiovisual rights commercialization agreements. According to the data presented, 8% of total professional football revenue is allocated to non-professional federations and leagues. This system, regulated by the Sports Law, channels resources towards minority sports and grassroots programs. Tebas argued that without this constant flow, many disciplines would lose their operational capacity. The key to the model lies in the centralization of television rights, which guarantees a stable allocation for the rest of Spanish sports.
Tebas, the hero Spanish sports didn't know they needed 🏆
While Tebas took home the award, one could imagine him at home counting the 45 million as if counting small change. But mark my words, football doesn't give without getting something in return: he's surely already calculating how to capitalize on the gesture in the next television negotiation. And meanwhile, Hidalgo's invisible ones will keep doing their work, perhaps dreaming that one day it will be their turn for a moment of glory. Or at least a piece of that 45 million pie, since they are the ones sweating it out without spotlights or microphones.
