The Expedition 74 crew aboard the International Space Station is upgrading their computer equipment. The new HP ZBook Fury G9 laptops, customized for space, are already being activated. The astronauts are replacing network servers and setting up these systems, which include an Intel Core Ultra 9 vPro HX processor and Nvidia RTX Pro Blackwell GPU, designed to withstand extreme conditions.
Technical Specifications and Adaptation to the Orbital Environment 🚀
The ZBook Fury G9s are equipped with 128 GB of DDR5 memory and four 2 TB NVMe SSDs, offering notable storage capacity and processing speed. Since the ISS operates on direct current, a special power adapter developed exclusively for NASA is included. This adapter is compatible both on the station and on Earth, allowing for equipment testing before launch. The integration of these components aims to improve data analysis and onboard communication.
128 GB of RAM to Watch Netflix in Zero Gravity 🛸
With 128 GB of RAM and four SSDs, astronauts could open browser tabs without the system complaining. Of course, in space there's no fiber optic Wi-Fi, so the download speed will remain the same as in a rural home. At least, when the servers fail, they'll have a luxury excuse to say that the computer weighs less than their spacesuit. That said, the power adapter looks more complex than the onboard manual.
