The West faces a paradox: it possesses resources, technology, and tradition, but lacks a unifying narrative to mobilize its societies. Without a solid identity, its global influence is diluted. The lack of coherent leadership exposes it to internal and external criticism, while other powers advance with clear narratives. The current void is not filled with nostalgia, but with concrete proposals.
Technology and development: the mirage of aimless innovation 🌐
Western technological development advances without a shared ethical framework. Billions are invested in AI, biotechnology, and clean energy, but without asking what society they are building for. China and other powers integrate their technical progress into a clear national identity. The West, on the other hand, outsources its production and internally debates regulations while losing digital sovereignty. Innovation without collective purpose is just a catalog of gadgets.
NATO meeting or existential group therapy? 🤔
Western leaders meet increasingly to talk about values and less to act. They resemble a book club discussing the chapter on identity without reaching the end. Meanwhile, the rest of the world makes decisions. Perhaps the next conclave should include a personality test to find out if the West is extroverted but insecure, or simply a narcissist in crisis. Something more than a joint statement, please.
