New Tales and Red Raketa present Kalanoro, an action-adventure game that adapts the folklore of Madagascar. We control Kalakely, a mythological creature singled out by a dubious prophecy. The witch Raneny imposes a dictatorship and plans a massive concert. Our mission: recruit legendary musicians and form a band to end her tyranny. It will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC this summer. 🎮
Platforms, combat, and band mechanics in a versatile engine 🎵
The title blends traditional platforming with direct combat and a band-building system. Each recruited musician provides specific skills to overcome obstacles and face enemies. The graphics engine, developed in Unity, allows for smooth transitions between exploration phases and rhythmic confrontations. The settings are inspired by Malagasy landscapes, with varied biomes including jungles, plateaus, and caves. The sound section integrates traditional instruments and rhythms from the island.
Concert to overthrow a witch (and without rehearsing) 🎤
The plot raises a serious question: what do you do if a witch organizes her own festival to celebrate her dictatorship? You form a rival band, of course. Kalakely gathers musicians who probably haven't even tuned their instruments, but who must play better than the official orchestra. The funny thing is that no one considers a simple mutiny. They prefer a musical duel. At least the revolution will have an original soundtrack and not just boring speeches.
