Jiro Ishii, creator of titles such as 428: Shibuya Scramble, has revealed the main cast of his new live-action adventure game, Shibuya Scramble Stories. The announcement was made during a conference at the 404 Not Found event, held at the Shibuya Sakura Stage. The five playable characters include a taxi driver, a lawyer, a journalist, a man with no surname, and a novelist.
Live action and branching narrative in the heart of Shibuya 🎬
The game promises a live-action experience filmed in real locations in the Shibuya district. Motion capture technology and real sets will be combined with a branching decision system, a hallmark of Ishii's work. Actors such as Kousei Amano and Yosuke Kubozuka will portray their characters in real time, aiming to make the player feel like part of a street thriller. There is no information on the total length of the story or the number of possible endings.
Five heroes, one direction, and no map 🚕
The character selection seems straight out of a casting call for a late-night drama: a taxi driver who drives like there's no tomorrow, a lawyer who surely charges by the minute, a journalist chasing scoops where there are none, a man named Ban Baba (whether that's his name or nickname is unclear), and a novelist who looks like he hasn't published anything in ten years. With this team, the only thing missing is for the villain to be a literary critic.
