The Italian Council of Ministers has given the green light to a labor decree linking the fair wage to collective bargaining, accompanied by employment incentives worth one billion euros. The package includes bonuses of up to 650 euros per month for those under 35 and 800 euros for disadvantaged female workers in special southern zones, along with measures against digital caporalato.
Digital caporalato and algorithmic protection for delivery drivers 🤖
The decree introduces mechanisms to combat digital caporalato, that practice where algorithms decide shifts and wages without transparency. Platform delivery drivers will receive greater legal protection, with the right to clear information about working conditions. Additionally, if a contract is not renewed within 12 months, salaries will automatically adjust to 30% of the harmonized inflation rate, preventing precariousness from becoming the norm.
Express renewal: 12 months or the salary goes up 📈
The decree includes a gem: if the contract is not renewed within a year, the salary increases by 30% of inflation. In other words, if the boss forgets to sign the paperwork, the employee earns more. It almost seems like an incentive for employers to lose their expiration date calendar. Of course, we'll have to see whether Italian companies prefer to pay or remember dates.
