Huawei has presented its xPixel technology at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, which turns car headlights into high-definition color projectors. When the vehicle is parked, it is possible to play movies, series, or sports events on any surface, transforming the car into a personal drive-in theater without the need for external screens.
How smart headlight projection works 🚗
The xPixel technology uses micro-LED arrays integrated into the headlights, capable of modulating light with pixel precision. Each headlight contains thousands of individual emitters that generate color images with a resolution comparable to a home projector. The system connects to the car's infotainment software, allowing content to be selected from the central screen. The projection automatically adjusts to the distance and shape of the surface, whether it's a wall, a tarp, or the side of another vehicle. Energy consumption is optimized to avoid draining the battery during a full session.

Now, when you get home and park, you can set up an impromptu cinema on the building's facade. Your neighbors will think you've installed a 120-inch screen, until they see the image coming from your headlights. The downside is that if you forget to turn off the lights, the next episode of your favorite series will be projected onto the neighbor's car while they try to sleep. And no, there's no pause function for when they honk the horn.
