Chinese automotive group Geely, owner of Volvo and Polestar, confirmed its entry into the Spanish market for 2026. Its initial strategy will be based on two SUV models with electrified propulsion: the Geely E5, a fully electric vehicle, and the Geely Starray EM-i, a plug-in hybrid variant. This move marks the beginning of new competition in the electrified car segment in our country.
SEA platform and series hybrid technology 🔋
The E5 will be built on Geely's SEA electric platform, which allows for large-capacity battery configurations and front or all-wheel drive. The Starray EM-i uses a plug-in hybrid propulsion system with a 1.5-liter thermal engine that primarily acts as a generator, optimizing efficiency. Both models will integrate high-definition infotainment systems and level 2 driving assistance.
And now, choose plug or pump ⚡⛽
Geely's offering poses the modern dilemma: full commitment to a plug or keeping one foot in the corner gas station. The E5 is for those who already have a charging point at home and have forgotten the smell of gasoline. The Starray EM-i, on the other hand, is the ideal vehicle for those who want to show off electric but, just in case, don't dare to completely let go of the umbilical cord that connects them to the service station. A decision that defines your relationship with the national power grid.
