The demo of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Nintendo Switch 2 is now available and has managed to calm fears about the quality of the port. Unlike the PS5 version, this demo allows you to explore Chapter 2, offering a first look at the game's open world. Progress is saved for the full title, which is scheduled for release on June 3rd. Early analyses highlight a stable frame rate and efficient texture loading, though without reaching the sharpness of Sony's console.
Technical Analysis: Dynamic Resolution and Stable 30 FPS in Handheld Mode 🎮
According to early reports, the FFVII Rebirth port for Switch 2 uses a dynamic resolution ranging from 720p to 900p in handheld mode, maintaining almost constant 30 frames per second. In docked mode, the resolution reaches 1080p with similar performance. Shadow details and draw distance have been reduced compared to PS5, but the open areas of Chapter 2 load without noticeable pop-in. The use of internal storage allows for load times of around 15 seconds, a significant improvement over other ports in the series.
Square Enix Proves It Can Count to Two, at Least in the Demo 😅
Square Enix has decided that on Switch 2, players can enjoy Chapter 2 of the demo, something that on PS5 seemed like a luxury reserved for another life. Perhaps it's their way of apologizing for that FFXVI demo that only showed hallways and tutorials. Or maybe it's an experiment to see how many players get lost in the open world before realizing they don't have time to complete it before June 3rd. Be that as it may, at least now we know the port works, and that's an achievement in itself.
