Cartoon Saloon, the Irish studio behind Puffin Rock, joins forces with Dog Ears Studios to bring My Brother the Minotaur to Apple TV+. The series follows Lorcan, a 12-year-old young minotaur living a sheltered life on Bryony Island with his brother Charlie. When nightmares and strange occurrences shake the town, the question of whether it's his own nature or a supernatural threat becomes the heart of this family adventure based on Celtic folklore.
2D Animation and Artisanal Design for Celtic Folklore 🎨
The series maintains Cartoon Saloon's visual signature: 2D animation with textures mimicking watercolor and pencil, an approach they previously used in Wolfwalkers or The Secret of Kells. For My Brother the Minotaur, the team combined digital techniques with hand-painted backgrounds, aiming to capture the misty atmosphere of a fictional Irish island. Each night scene and the designs of mythological creatures were built with limited color layers, prioritizing narrative over realism. Dog Ears Studios contributed its experience in preschool series to adjust the pacing for a children's audience, without losing the visual complexity that characterizes the studio.

Lorcan is 12 years old and already carries the existential crisis of wondering if his nightmares make him the villain of the story. Meanwhile, his brother Charlie probably just wants to know if he'll have to clean up the mess of a grumpy, horned teenage minotaur.
