Chinese firm Bright Laser Technologies (BLT) has collaborated with OPPO to manufacture key components for the Find N6 foldable phone. The goal was to improve screen flatness and reduce unsightly creases. To achieve this, BLT produced the hinge side plates using 3D printing in titanium, a critical part that withstands the most stress during folding.
From 13 parts to a single titanium structure 🔧
In previous designs, these plates required up to 13 assembled components. With additive manufacturing, BLT consolidated them into a single lightweight structure. 3D printing enables complex geometries that CNC machining cannot achieve, combining high strength with reduced weight. The result is a more robust and efficient hinge that keeps the screen smoother after thousands of open and close cycles.
Goodbye to the 13 gadgets, hello to magic titanium 😄
A folding hinge going from 13 parts to a single one sounds like magic, but it's just engineering. Or maybe OPPO's hinges broke so often they decided to simplify the mess. Now, instead of a titanium Meccano set, you have a single piece that holds up. Fewer loose parts means fewer trips to the service center, though engineers probably miss the Friday puzzle.
