Australian artist Leo Torres has recreated the city of Ald'ruhn from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in Unreal Engine 5. This project is part of his series modernizing iconic settings from the saga, and it is already generating excitement among fans. Ald'ruhn, the capital of the House Redoran district, stands out for its fantastic atmosphere, especially the Skar district, built inside the shell of an extinct giant crab.
A Technical Walk Through the Skar Shell 🎮
Torres manages to translate Morrowind's organic architecture into a modern graphics engine. The detailed textures and dynamic lighting of Unreal Engine 5 breathe new life into the Skar shell, with its curved walls and internal passageways. The use of Lumen for reflections and Nanite for geometry allows the intricate details of the shell to be seen without sacrificing performance. It is a technical work that brings the original conceptual vision closer to an almost photographic image.
And the Giant Crabs, Where Are They? 🦀
Seeing the result, one wonders if we will ever see a living crab of that size. For now, the only crustacean roaming Vvardenfell is the one you have in your soup. But hey, if anyone manages to put a giant crab with realistic physics into Unreal Engine 5, let us know. In the meantime, we'll settle for this empty shell and its postcard views.
